Work Sucks
So take in mind i am a college graduate with a bachalors in Poli Sci, and a minor in hist.
now add on to the fact i couldnt find a gov't job, and am now working at a nuclear power plant in my hometown, doing a job i dont really enjoy, in a field totally unrelated to my academic studies and one that doesnt take alot of 'mind power' if you will.
then add on to it that i am working night shift, twelve hours a day, six days a week, from 6p-6a, and my one night off is thursday, not even a weekend day...that is a concocation called worky suckiness....

Re: Work Sucks
That sucks dude...
I am a bum, and a current college student so I am not working right now. My last job was during last summer, when I worked for the Census Bureau; however, this was not a sucky job at all.
Working for the census consists of being paid well, getting compensated for 'miles driven', making your own hours, and working on the 'honor system'. Essentially it's the best job of all time.
I used to work for this party company in Western Pennsylvania, which will go unnamed for obvious reasons, and that job sucked ass. I lived approximately an hour from their warehouse, and often times I would have to report there at 5:45 a.m., which obviously was terrible in itself. Furthermore, the job consisted of either administering rules to unruly 5 year olds at 'parties' or putting up Christmas decorations / landscape lighting at multimillionaire's houses. It was the full gamut of bullshit, AND the pay was pretty damn awful. I sometimes struggle with why exactly I stayed there for as long as I did...

well the blessing and curse of a poli sci degree is that the field is so wide open that you could go into practically anything.
administion jobs, gov't jobs, legal aid, legislative assistant, i mean there is alot of different fields.
so many in fact its hard to really pin point what you want to do, or where you should go to find something lol.

I've been trying to decide what I want to do with my life, that's why I ask (:
And that sounds really interesting and pretty fun actually

I've been a member my whole life... While that isn't all that long it's still my whole life. As convoluted as that seems

a nice quote from a damn good speech that i reference in my real life alot goes like this:
a nice quote from a damn good speech that i reference in my real life alot goes like this:
"Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday ... Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t."

That's a fun quote who's is it???
My favorite quote is this: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money." --Margret Thatcher
Granted that has nothing to do with this topic :/

Socialism isn't really as bad as people would think. I think it just depends on the scope of socialistic policies. I for one, like Noam Chomsky, would call myself a 'libertarian socialist'.
I advocate limited government, in almost all capacities, but I think one of the few roles of the government should be to provide a social "safety-net", so to speak, in order to provide for the less fortunate citizens of a nation.
Mainly the government should keep their damn hands off most things, though.

Re: Work Sucks
It is from a speech called
"everybodys free to wear sunscreen"
Most famously it was recorded by Baz Luhrmann, and set to some music in the background (you should try to check out the entire speech on youtube, it is really good)
but the speech was originally written by Mary Schmich, a columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

Wow, I totally agree, work does suck...I have a degree in psychology, but like a lot of other people I am undecided on what to do with myself, and there really aren't many psychology related jobs that one can do with a bachelors. I work in a call center for a credit card company right now, as a "manager" (that means I get the angry, verbally abusive, crazy people) and even though I have the responsibilities of a manager, I make less than a dollar more than minimum wage and my hours change every week. It sucks, but I just got a new job, should be starting soon and hopefully it will be much better than that crap.

Congradulations on the new job!
my job is pretty bogus, but i get paied pretty well for it, and it is really close to my home, so i cant complain too much, but since i am an American, i do it anyways.
i wanted to be a psychologist for a while, took two years of high school psych, and one semester of college psych, and soc.
i really like it, i just love politics, but who knows maybe someday i will go back for a psych bachalors, iunno, i just like figureing out how the human mind works, and what motivates people...i pretty much like all of the social sciences i suppose.

Grats on the new job Lauren, hopefully you get an upgrade over dealing with people's bullshit all day long. I hope to see your thoughts on some of the debates in the 'Constitutional Convention'. At the very least, take a peek at the "Peoples Referendum" and vote on our Executive structure. I know you're a smart person, Lauren, and I'm interested as to what you think about our Constitution...
