Embassies?
I think embassies are a great idea. Does anyone else?

Re: Embassies?
I think so. Embassies would allow us to build better relations with other nations and regions.

Re: Embassies?
I've already begun construction on two embassies with South Pacific [not the big one lol] and Dark Skyes.
I think it's a great way to get our name out to the rest of the world, make some friends, and extend our benevolence and good-nature around the NationStates world.
Saludos,
Edit: We must, however, be careful with whom we associate. You can be sure that I will only foster diplomatic relationships with regions/nations who share our interests, and are not aggressive regions.

Re: Embassies?
I think the General Assembly should probably come up with some sort of legislation addressing this.
i mean usually embassies, would fall under the perogative of the State dept, and thus the Premier, and on NS the only people who control the embassies are the Founder and WA dele.
now i guess right now we are lucky that the Founder, WA dele and Premier all happen to be the same person, (or atleast mid-night tomorrow they will be),
but i think the GA needs to plan for when that may not be the case, and the procedure we shall take.

Re: Embassies?
I am confident in egg's decision, just as long as he looks into each region with whom we establish an embassy. I totally trust his judgment. Yet, I agree with serenel's point. We are very weak at the moment (gov wise). Putting it off will not be a big deal. Yet we should not forget about it so that it does not come back to bite the dirty.

Re: Embassies?
Well for the record i emphatically trust CES's judgement as well.
However for the most part the Founder and the Delegate as positions have almost no involvment in our political decisions.
the most involvment there is, is that the founder chooses the Chief Justice, but even that is only with the consent of our General Assembly.
So i just felt it would be in keeping with the Spirit of the region that there was a process that came back to a decision by some political body of the government.
not because i do not trust CES, but just for the integrity of our political structores, and their legitimacy.

As for trustworthy regions, I believe 10000 Islands could potentially be a valuable ally. They pride themselves on being proactive Defenders. In fact, I have a dummy Nation there now.

Re: Embassies?
Perhaps the Embassies could be overseen by an Executive Minister alongside an Assemly Oversight Committee?

I think that is an interesting idea.
well i mean the thought of having an Executive Minister control it is often used (usually in the form of a State Sec, or Foreign Affairs Minister).
however the idea of a Assembly Committee is intriguing.
what do you suppose the role and powers of such a committee would be?

Re: Embassies?
Well, the Committee could investigate and consider sending an embassy to a potential regional ally, approve an ambassador who could be nominated by Executive Minister (probably Foreign Minister), oversee relations with foreign ambassadors, and, if need be, recommend expulsion of a foreign embassy. How does this sound?

Re: Embassies?
I think the idea has potential.
we want to be careful though.
the idea of having an executive is that we have someone who can react fast, make decisions on the spot, and get things done quickly.
this will certinly slow down the process for something as trivial as sending an ambassador to a foreign forum, but i think it could have merit.
off the top of my head, i think the committee should consist of at most three Nations, with one being the Chair, all votes be done in public, with it being rather easy to remove Nations from the committee for inactivity, as this would be a position that should require a little extra responsibility to the region, and as such a little more activity.
also all votes should probably last at most a period of two days.
however something formal would have to be written up, and all this is pretty raw stuff we are throwing around, but i think there could be something there.

Re: Embassies?
I agree with the committee being small and easy to modify. That could be one of the Executive powers to call for committee overhaul in case of inactivity. Two days to vote and appoint ambassadors should be plenty. Any more thoughts from anyone?

This committee must be an Executive body in that case in order for the Premier to have authority of Executive Order over it. Just a thought. I like the idea, although I was rather excited to be handling the bulk of the foreign affairs as Premier.
